About Us

MISSION:

We help young people realize their inner and collective power to become the champions of the common good.

VISION:

Model For Social Change

Over the last five years Gandhi Brigade has pioneered a unique model for social change. We’ve empowered young people in the Washington D.C. area to employ the power of media in service to the common good.

METHOD:

We offer young people opportunities to use the media arts as a developmental path for personal and community growth. First we teach them how to create effective media messages. Second, we invite them to investigate power and privilege. Third, we create opportunities for them to apply these abilities, in collaboration with allies, toward practical common good projects.

The Importance of Youth Voice

Why invest in youth voice? What are the tangible outcomes of something like youth voice? At Gandhi Brigade we do this work for the outcomes we don’t automatically see at first glance. We do this work for the small, gradual differences we notice over time. The boosts in confidence when a youth speaks in front of a group. The knowledge and maturity it takes for a youth to recognize how issues on a global scale affect our daily lives. The respect and empathy with which a youth treats his/her teammates. These are the outcomes that develop young people who will go on to shape a future society of more kind, aware, and proactive citizens.

Gandhi Brigade commits to provide programs that empower youth to be leaders in their communities.
We envision a radically diverse network of youth and adults who are united in their commitment to fight for the empowerment of all people through the Gandhi principles of nonviolence, awareness, and common effort.
