The Alphabet Book

Print Media Project. Our Community Alphabet is a group project by the GRRL Tech girls of Eastern Middle School and Takoma Park Middle School. At each site, we worked as a class to brainstorm, photograph, and create a group alphabet that represented our individual interests, upbringing, cultures, and dreams as well as our common experience in local communities.

Our book is inspired by photographer Wendy Ewald’s book, American Alphabets, which displays cultural alphabets created by youth that opened our eyes to alternative interpretations of the traditional American alphabet book.
