Henock presenting during the Hidden Existence Social Justice Summer Screening.
The new Gandhi Brigade season has kicked off in busy fashion. Due to the demands of senior year, it has been more challenging to manage my time, but I value the idea of loyalty. Using this principle, I believe that it is important that I show up to the events and meetings this year to the best of my ability. Every New Year poses a different challenge which always makes things interesting. One of the challenges that I had was planning and leading a promoter meeting. On October 31, 2013, the producers were in charge of directing the meeting. I came up with the idea of discussing the issue of Syria with our fellow promoters. Thanks to the support from staff and teammates, the meeting was successful and there was good discussion on the issue.
As a member of the Gandhi Brigade, one of the most important things I’ve learned is the importance of social justice. The youth have so much power to use media and other forms of technology to create such a huge influence within our own community. Often times we are unaware of the capabilities that we have thus fail to accomplish them. While it is important to learn about the issues with our community, I also believe that we need to be globally minded. Having an international perspective is integral to developing this global mindset. This was the main objective of the Syria meeting. I wanted to provide insight into an international issue that is relevant to us. Understanding that you are a global citizen helps you expand your mindset and how far you want to achieve. The discussion taught me that many youth already have this global perspective. The insightful comments and discussion from the promoters helped me come to this realization. Now that we have this enhanced perspective, it is time that we make it practical and implement it in our daily lives.

Thank you for your wisdom. I like the fact that you propose finding a balance between our local and global vision. This country and the world needs people just like you.
