Silver Spring Stories
On Wednesday November 8th, 2011, Smithsonian, along with local nonprofit organizations, held an event called Silver Spring Stories at the AFI Cultural Center. This event was an evening conversation around the history of immigration and the creation of new communities in Silver Spring and Montgomery County. It was open to the public to come and learn about immigration and preserving their story. I enjoyed the video the Gandhi Brigade and AALead made about youth sharing their experience on how immigrating to the United States has been a struggle for them to adapt to. Having this event was very important because it helped me to understand the importance of preserving and telling your story through the challenges immigrants and their families have faced in adjusting to their new homes.
