Paula Matallana
Paula was born and raised in Cali, Colombia. At the age of 10, she moved to Miami, Florida, where she attended middle school and high school. She received her Bachelors Degree in studio art from Grinnell College, located in the small town surrounded by cornfields of Grinnell, Iowa.
After graduating from college, she went to Colombia during the fall to spend time with her extended family. She then moved to the Washington DC area in January 2011 for an internship with the Floating Lab Collective, an artist collective that is connected to Provisions Library in DC. At the same time, she worked at George Mason University’s School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution under the Genocide Prevention Project as a programs officer.
As the current AmeriCorps Youth Organizer, she is leading Gandhi Brigade’s two main campaigns for the year: the immigration campaign and the Silver Spring youth campaign (which focuses on the proposed Montgomery Country teen curfew). She is also in charge of communications, so please write to her at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Paula likes to read, make art, climb things, soccer (or, better said, futbol), learn different languages, and drink tea of all sorts.
