Vicki Warren: President
In February of 2007, Richard called me to help with an event called “What’s your Story?” Youth and adults were coming together to interview each other and form a consensus as to what kind of change was needed in the community. Richard asked me to help train people how to use the video cameras which had been donated for use that day. The connections I felt with the people there that day were lasting and four years later, I am still connected to Gandhi Brigade.
Currently, I am on the Board of Directors at Gandhi Brigade. I have also helped with creating media projects and judging the Youth Media Festival.
Something interesting…well at age 56, I played beach volleyball for the first time at a Gandhi Brigade retreat and learned that I LOVE that game!
Renetta Boyd: Secretary
I was invited to attend a GB open house. At the open house and after hearing about the great work of the youth, I completed a post card that asked how would I like to become involved. I checked the box for becoming a board member and was invited to an interview. I have been a board member since 2009. I serve as the recording Secretary for the GB board. I have a lifelong commitment to volunteerism and community service. I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, Eastern Caribbean, St. Kitts- 2004-2006, and I am serving as the Social Committee Chair for RPCV/W 50th Anniversary. Additionally, I am a active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Theta Omega Omega Chapter, Silver Spring, MD. I serve on the AKA Connection committee and the Partnership in Math and Science program where I tutor 4th graders in reading on Thursday at William Taylor Page Elementary School in Silver Spring.
Richard Turner: Treasurer
have been involved with Youth Media for many years and directly involved in community media as the Executive Director of Montgomery Community Television. I met Richard Jaeggi at a CTC-Net conference and we have been conspiring ever since.
I am on the Board of Directors and serve as the Treasurer. I have also volunteered as a mentor and trainer.
When I was in high school I was influenced by filmmaker George Stoney. He was involved in organizing youth to produce video as a conflict mediation tool to ease racial tension in the ’70s which became the basis of a documentary Race and Reason.
