Giving Thanks

By tapiwa - Posted on 30 November 2009

On the sunny morning of November 21, 2009, bands warmed up, floats lined up, performers stretched, and the crowd lined up along the sidewalks of Georgia Ave all the way into Ellsworth Drive. Cold winds blew and the crowd was set for the parade to begin. Photographers pulled out their cameras and began taking shots lefts and right, some for the news and others, for a family keepsake. I walked with the procession chanting loudly along protesting against gender violence. Children’s bright faces showed left and right as they watched mesmerized by the many different shows of the parade.
People danced along to the different bands that provided musical entertainment. The bands ranging from Montgomery Blair High School, the crowd with such emotion greeted The Washington Redskins Marching band, and Bowie State University Marching Band that they played the whole while they marched. As the marching ended, the crowd kept cheering and chanting along with the marchers in the parade. It was a great day and not even bad weather could stop such a good show. In addition, many people gave thanks for being in the show and for watching the show.
